Washington DC is home to hundreds of memorials and monuments that carry a high level of importance to the country's history. These include the Lincoln Memorial, the Martin Luther King Memorial, and the Washington Monument, honoring America's founding father, George Washington. Millions visit them annually. Here we profile some of the most famous.


Structures

The top four structures that we'll be discussing are uniquely fashioned, giving Washington its swagger as the nation's capital. Each has it's own distinct style, but one common thing about them is that they all borrow from ancient architecture.

Locations

The monuments and memorials we are discussing here are located almost in the vicinity of each other. All of them are situated near the Washington Mall, and visitors can walk from one to the other without requiring any vehicle transportation.

History

All monuments and memorials carry a degree of historical significance. Most of them honor America's fallen heroes and activists. For example, the Martin Luther King Memorial celebrates the civil rights leader's campaign for equality and justice.
